PROJECT TORINO
This project is a series of multiple paintings on A3 paper. The horizontal (TORINO EFFECT) is the main work. I started with it and kept on creating the other pieces. The journey of this work started before I made it. I went to Torino because of "Artissima." One of the Turkish galleries wanted me to be their gallery assistant. So, I stayed at my friend's place, who also worked with me at the fair. That was the purpose of this trip.
Thanks to my friend and her friend group, I had the chance to experience the city in a way that helped me to create a more profound connection with it. I fell in love with the city and the experiences I had there. I canceled my ticket to Rome multiple times and just let it be.
Then when I came back, I had this emptiness and the feeling of doing something that could recreate the moments there. So I put down everything that I remembered that impacted me; good, bad, stupid, or random stuff that happened—quotes that stayed highlighted in my head, images that stuck with me, and my experiences.
After reflecting, I took some aspects of it, did other individual works (Tamango, Panche, Camera, 8 Bus), and went with the same concept.
When I was doing these pieces, I realized that the whole artwork and those experiences happened because of "Artissima" (the art fair). But when I look back to the pieces I made, I never fully included the fair. However, later on, I realized that's mostly part of "going" to art fairs. You prioritize the other things, such as the events, openings, and people, more than the fair itself.
In conclusion, this work reflects my journey to Torino and the things left in me. Although many things changed after this trip and the whole experience, it impacted me in a way that I can't fully explain; this work is personal and honest because of this and has a different place among the other projects and pieces I did.
